Week 2209: The 𝖥̶𝗋̶𝗂̶𝖽̶𝖺̶𝗒̶ Sunday Takeaway 🥡 is served…

Better late that never?!

The view from my desk (on Friday)

It’s been a busy week, which is why my Friday takeaway slipped through the net and landed on a Sunday morning.

Which is my main reflection from the week as a result.

Here is the view from my desk this week. It looks relatively calm, but in reality, I spent most of the week switching between 100s of calls, Chrome tabs, documents and conversations.

Here’s the three big takeaways as a result…

1. Context switching

I spent a lot of the week switching context. I’m sure everyone can relate to the feeling of being tired from doing so much, yet equally feeling like nothing big got ticked off the list.

The tiredness does’t come from the work itself, it comes from context shifting. Sometimes there’s nothing you can do about it, but it’s worth being aware off… which leads me too Thursday…

2. Being in the room – all day

From context switching to spending a day in a client’s office. What a treat (as always) – the difference was night and day.

From hundreds of things, to 3 or 4 really focussed activities throughout the day. And a handful of “water cooler” moments with new people.

When you’re out of the office, and in particular with clients, you’re forced to be present (at least most of the time). And being present is the best way to connect with people, and get big things moving.

Which leads me nicely onto…

3. Perfection can get in the way

I know I’m sometimes a perfectionist, in particular when it comes to work.

I almost didn’t post this because it felt messy. “You can’t post your Friday Takeaway on a Sunday, Sam” I had ringing through my head.

But then I reminded myself, consistency and being human, is more important than perfection.

So posting today, is a small reminder to myself, that things don’t go as planned all the time, and that’s fine too.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend!
