On Jubilee Bridge the other day

People and behaviour1 min readSam Page

On Jubilee Bridge the other day, the blue sky, grey clouds and tension cables caught my eye. It felt remarkably close to the mood in most business conversations right now.

The economy isn’t exactly thriving.

Most conversations I’m having land on the same themes:
uncertainty, unemployment sitting at 5%, leaders being cautious.

But I’m not hearing pessimism.
And I’m definitely not feeling it.

What I’m noticing is something much more positive.
A grounded confidence that next year, things will get moving.

Work is busy and everyone needs a break.
But leaders are thinking with intention.
Teams are keen to push forward.

It’s definitely hard work compared to two years ago.
But my sense is that people want to get through the rest of the year, take a proper breather, and come into 2026 with clearer heads and sharper priorities.

Less hesitation and more direction.
Some calm, steady leadership from government would help.
But I don't think businesses are going to stand still in 2026.

Because people move forward when they feel safe and confident to move.
And I think that confidence is slowly returning.

Is anyone else feeling or hearing this same things?
