# Meta just rebranded personal AI agents as ‘personal superintelligence’.

But the data play behind it matters more than the name.

Zuckerberg's not wrong, personal agents will give people greater agency.

But that's not the full story.

Reframing "personal agents" as something Meta is inventing and owning is clever, and a strategic land grab.

Calling it "personal superintelligence" is an attempt to own the category.

But if Meta own the interface between you and information and choices...
They own the data too.
Which means more personalised ads.
Which means more revenue.

Which is where the ROI comes from.

And to be clear - I’m a big believer in personalised ads.
Done well, they can be genuinely effective for people and companies.
But they must be built on transparency, consent and user choice.

I didn't see any *commitment* to data privacy in the announcement.
Even if it's buried somewhere, I would be cautious.

Personal agents are going to be amazing in the future.
But only if they serve the user first.

The version I would love to see:

- Personal AI agents that work for you
- You own the data
- You control who sees what, and for how long
- Value flows back to individuals AND organisations

There is plenty of room for innovation and value-sharing in that model.
We don't need one company owning the entire pie in my view.

Would you trust a personal agent... sorry, "personal superintelligence", owned by Meta?
