# Back in November, Shopify reported AI-referred traffic was 7x higher than January 2025.

AI-attributed orders were 11x higher. That was before April's update.

5.6 million Shopify stores are now shoppable inside ChatGPT.

880 million monthly users can browse and buy products in the middle of a conversation.

No warning. No announcement from merchants. It just went live.

This is what I've been working through with clients: businesses now have two audiences. One human. One AI.

If your products aren't showing up when someone asks ChatGPT "what's the best X for Y?", you're invisible to a growing chunk of buyers.

What makes this bigger than one integration: Google AI Mode, Copilot, and Gemini are all building the same thing. A new commerce distribution layer is forming across every AI interface.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about OpenAI scaling back its own Instant Checkout. Now they've handed commerce to Shopify instead. The platform play seems to be winning.

AI is already part of the buying journey. The question is whether your products are visible in it!
